Breakfast at Cafe Mary Grace
Our friend Vannie sent Kat a message that there’s going to be an intro to calligraphy session at ATC. Kat and I haven’t seen each other for so long so we decided to go to this fun activity. I asked my sister Erika to come too because like me, she loves anything related to art.
We weren’t included in the first 20 who registered online so we had to wait for the second session which started at 11:30am. We were there at 10am and to kill time, we had breakfast and sat at Cafe Mary Grace.
Cafe Mary Grace is a quaint little cafe that I frequent for their yummy grilled cheese rolls which go well with freshly made hot chocolate. I love their pasta and cakes too! The service is always superb and I can’t count how many times I’ve been here. When I meet my friends and we can’t think of what food we want to eat, we always end up here maybe because the place just exudes that homey vibe.
life after BREAKFAST
At long last, the wait is over! We went to the open space at Corte De Las Palmas and picked a spot. Our life after breakfast was spent learning basic calligraphy.
It was a fun experience! I used to just look at my friend Sophie‘s work on Instagram (check out how good Sophie is). I know calligraphy isn’t easy but I didn’t know it could be that fun. I can’t stop scribbling! The hard part was actually having the guts to start, mainly because I didn’t want to make a mistake and ruin my first plate.
Our calligraphy master, Alessa, is the woman behind Life After Breakfast (click to see Alessa’s awesome work). She was very accommodating and she answered our questions, went from table to table to look at our writing style and to see whether we were holding our pens right. I love that she checked on each and everyone; she even asked Erika to try another pen that’s more convenient for her to hold.
Here are some photos taken during the intro class:
We’ll definitely enroll! I really want to learn more. I just need to wait for my baby’s arrival (which is soon) so I can travel to the workshop venue. As you know, I can’t travel that far these days because of my growing belly.
Alessa also teaches basic watercolor art, watercolor lettering, botanical watercolor, modern calligraphy, rubberstamp carving and more! To my friends here in Manila, this is a great activity you should try. Check out Life After Breakfast’s workshop schedule here.
