Cafe Enye: Breakfast, Brunch and Brew

The #TitasofManila would always meet for breakfast. We want dainty cafes, pastel-coloured linen, bright lights and pretty food for our Instagram. Where do we bring the gents? Men don’t want pretty food. They just want one thing for breakfast – real food. And if they can have beer, well that’s heaven!

If you’re looking for a place in Eastwood City where you can have breakfast, brunch, and cold brew, try Cafe Enye. This is where you’d love to have  meetings with your bros because they offer bang for the buck meals which come in big servings. If there’s something we can thank the Spaniards for, that would be the rich culture they have shared with us for 333 long years. I’m sure that deep down inside, you are craving for Spanish cuisine! Cafe Enye serves traditional Filipino and Spanish colonial dishes you’ll love.

Every dish is a must try…

They have a bar which offers Nipa Brew‘s wide selection of all natural, all local beverages both men and women will love. For openminded gals, this is the place where you can have unlimited mimosas and bloody mary for breakfast without being judged. 🙂 Did I mention unlimited? For only P200? Really cool place!

They’re open daily from 7 am to 1 am. Come together, right now!

The Pigpen Cafe

The Pig Pen - Sta Rosa

Now that my little man enjoys going out for a walk, I feel better bringing him to parks and malls. I don’t like going out on weekends though because the rainy season has already started and people are getting sick. We try to stay away from the crowd as much as possible and these days, it’s hard to find quiet spots where we can enjoy good food.

Whilst exploring Solenad 3, my mom saw The Pigpen Cafe and she instantly said we should check it out because they seem to offer good food (basing on the photos displayed through the glass). The Black Pig @theblackpigmnl in Alabang came into my mind and true enough, I learned that The Pigpen is its sister cafe. I knew even before we walked right through the door that we will be served great food.

We were supposed to order snacks but the photos were so enticing that we ended up ordering rice meals and pasta. What I love about The Pigpen is that the photos on the menu look very close to the actual food they serve – the colours, the presentation, the serving size. What you see is what you get (except for the banana cheesecake which was just half of the one we saw on the menu).

We ordered Chicken Mole, Roasted Garlic Chicken, and Pulled Pork Cannelloni. The colours were enticing and each of these plates were so rich in flavour! Chicken Mole had that scrumptious Mexican bbq taste while the rice accompanying the roasted chicken, albeit plain-looking, was truly delicious and delightful. My mom really enjoyed her tasty cannelloni. The pulled pork filling’s tenderness was perfect.

Chicken Mole – I learned that [moh-lay] sauce is a fusion of different flavours and spices and chocolate is one of its main ingredients. Wow. I love this already.

Don’t judge this Roasted Garlic Chicken by the way it looks. Yes, it may look less mouthwatering because it looks plain but it’s really flavourful! Try it!

Pulled Pork Cannelloni – Perfectly done! The pulled pork filling was very tender.

I wish they have more desserts to choose from. We couldn’t find one that’s unique to call their signature dessert and we ended up ordering staple confections such as banana cheesecake and lemon custard pie.

Overall, we were happy with the food we had and we like the place. It’s casual and not as intimidating as The Black Pig but equally awesome for the great food and wide selection of drinks. I recommend that you try The Pigpen as they serve really delicious food that they craft from scratch. The price is not too steep and if you’re tired of the usual food you eat in commercialised restos, then you’ll find great food oozing with flavours here.

The next time you’re in Nuvali, Santa Rosa, check out The Pigpen!
Have a great weekend, everyone.

100% juice, 100% yum, and 100% healthy

Laineyloveslife - Mott's 100% Apple Juice - Applelicious Spaghetti

Applelicious Spaghetti – healthy snack for the picky kid. Smart kid? Smarter mom! Kids won’t spot and remove the apple because mom made it into this super delicious and healthy snack.

The moms are officially super busy now! Luckily, I’m a newbie and my little boy hasn’t gone to school yet so I’m enjoying the early stages of motherhood. 🙂 My nieces’ classes will start next week and I thought it’s good to share with you this American juice brand that they love. You and your kids will love it too because it’s healthy and packed with vitamins that your kids need.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away but the USDA Dietary Guidelines recommend two cups of fruit juice daily. These days, it’s hard to find a brand that serves juice without too much sugar and us health conscious moms know that sugar is not good for kids’ health. A can of Mott’s® 100% Original Apple Juice serves two cups of fruits with added Vitamin C. It’s 100% juice, 100% yum, and 100% healthy!

Fly Ace, if you’re reading this, can you please bring Mott’s for Tots here too?

Pierce and I were invited to a fun picnic/family day event by Mott’s where there were lots of activities for kids! Pierce can’t play games yet so mum just enjoyed the healthy food served at the event. 🙂 Mott’s also launched a cookbook featuring healthy apple juice recipes by US-Phil Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist Cheshire Que, RND, RN, RDN. Wow.. just wow! I tasted the goodies (apple sauce, applelicious spaghetti, caramelised popcorn) and I was amazed with the many ways we can use apple juice in preparing delicious and exciting snacks for kids!

The event was hosted by celebrity mom Christine Jacob-Sandejas. Mott’s brand ambassador and entrepreneur Janice Villanueva was also there with her family and she shared lots of helpful tips in choosing healthy options and preparing healthy meals for kids.

Here are some of the photos I took at the event…

Why settle for sugar-filled juices in the market when you can have 100% apple juice that tastes really, really good? I’ll stick to Mott’s!

Le Petit Souffle: French Japanese Cafe

Love at first sight!

Like the usual French cafe, Le Petit Souffle is quaint. The hanging greens look so real, you’ll think you’re in a real  garden with an open air feel. Those giant fireflies (bulbs) add a romantic feel to the cafe; so romantic we witnessed a pre-nuptial photo shoot happen before our very eyes. The rolling pins are cute – unnecessary but cute. If there’s an element that validates this cafe as Japanese, it’s the wall panel adorned with wooden windows in white and beige. That and the minimalist theme.

Our food was okay. I came from an event at the same mall and my parents had coffee so we met here to have something light to eat. We ordered just pasta and salad so I don’t think this will qualify as a review. I just want to comment that they should not charge for re-heating the bread as the bread was served cold (and chewy) — our canine teeth couldn’t handle it.

This year, I made a firm resolution that I’ll drink as much fresh fruit juice as I can and refrain from taking bottled or powdered juice. It’s hard but I’m determined and I’m happy that more and more restaurants are offering fresh fruit juices these days. Le Petit Souffle’s Tropical Basil and Cucumber Fruit Tea was really refreshing!

Here are some photos of what we had at Le Petit Souffle:

I’d like to go back to try their desserts. 🙂

Chaplin Cafe

If there’s something I’m really proud of about Manila aside from the well-known Filipino hospitality, it’s the diversity and variety. Restaurants sprout like mushrooms to cater to Filipino foodies. We always look for something new and we don’t stop exploring! Aside from offering local food, we also bring in a variety of the best foreign tastes, making us an ideal traveler’s pitstop/destination. Makati City, our CBD, provides exciting experiences, whether it may be for business or leisure travel. No wonder world-renowned cuisine connoisseurs like Anthony Bourdain come here to try even the fast food joints.

Next time you’re in the city, check out the newly opened Chaplin Cafe at Century City Mall along Kalayaan Avenue. Its continental cuisine with a hint of Middle-Eastern flair is not to be missed! I loved every food they served and my Chaplin Cafe experience reminded me and made me miss the festive flavours that I enjoyed when I lived in Doha.

The Ambience

It’s a nice place to bring your friends in for a tasty breakfast, lunch or dinner as they’re open from 8am to 1am daily. The seats are comfy and the ambience is inviting with its classic achromatic scheme. You’ll feel like you’re in a minimalist hotel lounge with a stylish bar. At night, there is outdoor seating with hanging rice lights, complementing that breezy,  welcoming feel. The place is friendly but it could also be romantic. I just wish there is matching jazzy music to complete but overall, Chaplin Cafe is fantastic and I highly recommend this if you love vegetarian food.

The Food

Here’s my Chaplin Cafe experience, in photos:

Perfection. Eggplant Melanzane  is my favourite of them all! I can’t even describe how it tastes like. It’s rich and savoury, but not too strong or salty. I can eat this all day.

Shashouka is a medley of tomatoes, peppers, onions and a myriad of spices topped with poached eggs paired with freshly baked Ciabatta. It is light and is a perfect breakfast starter.

Classic Home Fries for appetizer

You know me. I love anything with feta cheese. I love this Feta Salad even better because they serve it chunky and crusty. The texture is magical to the palates.

Chicken Steak: Grilled to perfection and really filling!

Chaplin Pizza is far from the usual meaty, tummy buster. It’s light and guilt-free, you won’t mind having this everyday.

Chocolate Souffle, see you soon. My love for anything chocolate is so strong, I’ll drive from South to Makati just to see you. 🙂 In one word, you’re YUM-mazing!

And for le dessert, say hello to la vanile Napoleon!

Chaplin Cafe is located at Century Mall’s roof deck in Makati
